A first autonomous rover on a budget

A chassis, motor control, one distance sensor and a brain. Enough to get obstacle avoidance running without touching a soldering iron.

BeginnerTarget budget €150.00From €22.47 with the cheapest option at every step

1.Rolling chassis

A two-wheel-drive kit with a caster is the shortest path to something that moves. Tracks look better but cost more and eat current.

2.Motor driver

Check the continuous current rating against your motors' stall current, not their nominal draw — that is where cheap drivers die.

3.Distance sensor

Ultrasonic is cheap and forgiving indoors. Infrared time-of-flight is more precise but struggles in sunlight.

4.The brain

A microcontroller is enough for obstacle avoidance. Move to a single-board computer only when you actually need vision or ROS.
